Walk-Over Bucks are Back!

For many of you readers, this post is not going to make a lot of sense.  But...for those of you who have an idea of what a Walk-Over Dirty Buck is, this post is for you!

THEY ARE BACK!!!

That's right!  While perusing casually through the other blogs I follow, it was noted that after many years of inactivity, the Walk-Over Shoe Company, originally founded in 1874, has re-invented itself and has opened it's doors in Greenwich, CT.

These are the shoes we loved and beat all to hell in college and the soon thereafter.  When there was no heel left and the uppers could no longer be considered tan suede, we pitched them and bought a new pair, generally at the old Post Oak location of Norton Ditto here in Houston.  They were casual shoes worn with no socks and shorts in the summer and with socks, cords and tweeds in the winter...or what we call Fall here in Houston.  They were part of the standard issue uniform of Blue Blazer, Repp Tie, Khaki's and a starched white button-down.

You could wear them through a drunken stooper at the bars until 2:00 a.m. on Saturday night and then don them again the next morning for church.  You really didn't need another pair of shoes.  Then we grew up and started wearing laced-up Alden's and Allen Edmond's to work, Nike and New Balance running shoes for exercise and Polo loafers for casual wear.  So, while I no longer hit the bars until 2:00 a.m. and wear suits with cap-toed oxford brogues to church, I'm hear to tell you, I want my bucks back!  And they are!

So, I enthusiastically called one of the 3 US retailers (CT, ME, PA) and inquired about the bucks.  The very nice salesman in Maine informed me that the good news is that yes, they are readily available for shipment to my doorstep.  The bad news...$225 per pair.  So, while I get up the nerve to purchase a pair of the old reliables, I'll continue to search eBay for a pair that will hold me for awhile.

Herewith a sampling of the entire new line:

Welcome back Walk-Over!  It's good to see you again!
